Repeat Prescriptions

It takes 48 hours to process a repeat prescription and this does not include weekends or bank holidays.

You can obtain a repeat prescription by the following:

  • By putting your repeat prescription request form (green slip) in the box in our porch.
  • By Email: GMICB-tameside.medlockvalemedicalpractice@nhs.net
  • By post
  • In person at the front desk
  • Via your usual chemist
  • Using the Online Access / NHS App by clicking on the image above.

We are able to facilitate prescription requests over the phone for vulnerable and elderly patients.

Please allow two working days for repeat prescriptions to be processed before collecting your prescriptions.

At certain intervals, you may be asked to make an appointment to see the Doctor before your next repeat prescription can be issued. This is to review the progress of your medical condition and treatment.

Repeat prescriptions will NOT be given during consultation.

Some chemists offer repeat prescription dispensing and pick up services. Please ask your local chemist for information. Please only request the repeat medication you need for any particular month.

The surgery now offers electronic prescription services whereby the pharmacy can order the prescription electronically via the surgery.

For nominating pharmacies – please call into the pharmacy you wish to collect your prescriptions from and ask them to nominate you. Please note, we are unable to nominate pharmacies for patients here at the surgery.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

If you’re entitled to a certificate because of your medical condition, please call into the surgery and we can provide you with the application form.

You’ll get a certificate in the post within 10 working days of the exemption service receiving your application.
